The Lake Placid Loppet is conducted by the Olympic Regional Development Authority on the Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Ski Trails.

As the classic technique class continues to grow, we will continue to offer dedicated tracks and start times for the classic skier; If you would prefer to start at 10:00 am with the free technique skiers you may do so, however, you will not be eligible for classic class awards.

Starts and Finishes: Preference in starting will be given to elite skiers. Other skiers will be asked to start according to their anticipated finish times. Gold pins will be presented to all who finish the Loppet, and silver pins given to those finishing the Kort-Loppet. A competitor entered in the 50K Loppet who drops out at 25K will receive a silver pin, but his/her time will not appear on the result sheet and he/she will not be eligible for prizes in the Kort-Loppet.

Distance Changes: Once entry is received, competitors have until 5:00 pm, February 1, 2012 to change race distance. There will be absolutely no changes to race distance on race day. To make a race distance change request, you can contact the organizers directly at 518-523-1655.

The Course: The races will be run on a slightly modified version of the 50km course constructed for the 1980 Winter Olympics making it one of the most challenging citizen races in the world! Timing: There will be two cut-off times which skiers in the 50K event must meet in order to be allowed to finish the race. The first one, the skier must finish the 25K point within three hours, and the second, the skier must finish the 42K point within four and 1/2 hours.

Results: In order to facilitate the timely publication of final race results, Kort Loppet participants who finish after 1:00pm will not appear on the final result sheet. They will, however, still be eligible for age category awards. Results will be posted at the Awards Banquet and will be made available at http://www.whiteface.com/events/lop.php

Bib Pickup: Bib Pickup will take place from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Lodge on Friday, February 3rd. Entrants will receive a race packet containing their numbered bib, entry card, and final race instructions. On the day of the race, Saturday, February 4th, bib pickup will be from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. It is suggested that packets be picked up the night before. The race will not be delayed for late arrivals.

Entry Fees: There will be no limit on the number of registrants, but skiers are encouraged to enter as early as possible. The following schedule of entry fees applies: Entries received through 1/12/12 are . Entries received between 1/13/12 and 2/01/12 are and on site race entries on Feb 3rd 3-8pm are . THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event that a racer must withdraw for any reason. Entries are not transferable, and race officials will disqualify any racer who is using another entrant's bib.

Start/Finish Areas: The start & finish are in the cross country stadium. Wave starts will be used according to technique and distance. You will be required to verify your start by handing in the 3×5 card provided in your race packet, at the time you enter the stadium. Warming areas, toilet facilities, and indoor waxing facilities will be made available at the cross country stadium. After the race, light refreshments and warming areas will be made available.

Safety Stations: Nordic ski patrol will be on course at all feeding stations and at additional locations. Skiers are asked to report injured skiers to the next feeding station or to the first race official encountered. There is a complete first-aid room at the cross country stadium.

Feeding Stations:Will be located every 5km. Each station will provide beverages and high energy foods.

Weather Conditions: In the event there is insufficient snow cover, the race organizers will decide as of Wednesday, February 1, whether to hold the event as scheduled. Organizers will contact registrants via email, but you should also be prepared to check back to this webpage for updates or call the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Cross Country Center at (518) 523-2811. If necessary, the postponement date has been set as Saturday, March 10. No refunds will be made to competitors unable to compete on the alternate date.

Extreme Weather Plan: In the event of extreme cold or other hazardous weather conditions, the organizers may modify and/or shorten the course so as to insure the safety of all competitors.

Awards: Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each class in Free and Classic Techniques with additional awards presented to the first overall male and female finisher in the Loppet.

Awards Banquet: An awards Banquet will take place at 3:00pm at the Conference Center at Lake Placid, located at the Olympic Center-2634 Main Street, following the race. The banquet is included in your race fee. You will receive a ticket with your registration packet. Additional tickets may be purchased for friends and family members ( Adults, Children) online or at registration.
